The prevalence of anaemia is substantially higher in OIC countries than in non-OIC countries
over the whole period
(Figure 10).Starting from an initial rate of 61% of children under the
age of five being anaemic, the prevalence rate continually decreased in the last 20 years but
still remains very high: close to half of the children (48.5%) in the OIC were anaemic over the
period 2010/16. In the non-OIC world, the prevalence of anaemia went down from 42% to
35% over the same period.
The levels and trends of anaemia are very similar when the sample is restricted to developing
countries
(Figure 11).32
