LAND USE AND POPULATION IN THE COMCEC MEMBER

COUNTRIES

In addition to the agricultural labor force, the effective and productive use of

land in agriculture is an essential element in the process of agricultural development.

The COMCEC member countries have a total agricultural area of 1.4 billion hectares,

corresponding to 36.4% of the total agricultural area of the developing countries and

28.4% of that of the world and accounted for 43.7% of their total land area compared to

38.7% and 37.9% in developing countries and world average, respectively (Figure 4.1

and Table 4.1).
