Financial Access

Bank Accounts per 1,000

Adults

Depositors with commercial banks are the reported number of

deposit account holders at commercial banks and other resident

banks functioning as commercial banks that are resident

nonfinancial corporations (public and private) and households.

For many countries data cover the total number of deposit

accounts due to lack of information on account holders. The major

types of deposits are checking accounts, savings accounts, and

time deposits. For each country calculated as: 1,000* reported

number of depositors/adult population in the reporting country.

Bank Branches per 100,000

Adults

Commercial bank branches are retail locations of resident

commercial banks and other resident banks that function as

commercial banks that provide financial services to customers

and are physically separated from the main office but not

organized as legally separated subsidiaries. For each country

calculated as: 100,000* reported number of commercial bank

branches/adult population in the reporting country.

money banks to GDP (%)

The financial resources provided to the private sector by domestic

money banks as a share of GDP. Domestic money banks comprise

commercial banks and other financial institutions that accept

transferable deposits, such as demand deposits.

Deposit money banks' assets

to GDP (%)

Total assets held by deposit money banks as a share of GDP. Assets

include claims on domestic real nonfinancial sector which

includes central, state and local governments, nonfinancial public

enterprises and private sector. Deposit money banks comprise

commercial banks and other financial institutions that accept

transferable deposits, such as demand deposits.

Stock market capitalization to

GDP (%)

Market capitalization (also known as market value) is the share

price times the number of shares outstanding (including their

several classes) for listed domestic companies. Total value of all

listed shares in a stock market as a percentage of GDP.
