Figure 22 maps the proportion of population at risk of catastrophic expenditure when surgical

care is required. Here, the catastrophic expenditure is defined as direct out of pocket payments

for surgical and anaesthesia care exceeding 10% of total income. The indicator underscores the

risk implications of accessing health care and in a very practical way combines information about

income, health expenses and non-health expenses. The indicator does not have data for all OIC

member countries.
