v. Main Agricultural Surveys and Data Sources
Agricultural Censuses
To date, seven agricultural censuses have been conducted in Turkey in the years 1927, 1950,
1963, 1970, 1980, 1991 and 2001. The last general census of agriculture was conducted in
2001 and consisted of three different studies, as follows:
 Agricultural Holdings List
 Village General Information Survey
 Agricultural Holdings (Household) Survey: All agricultural holdings in the settlements
in village status and in the centres of districts having less than 5,000 inhabitants were
covered. In the provinces and district centres having 5,001 or more inhabitants, some
criteria were specified for the size of land and number of livestock, while all
agricultural holdings over the specified criteria were covered.
Annual, Monthly, Weekly and Daily Surveys
Crop production statistics are collected based on estimates (administrative records) 3 times
per year in May, October and December. Livestock statistics are also collected annually and are
based on administrative records. Animal production statistics are based on the monthly
surveys.68 Agricultural price statistics are collected monthly, and fishery statistics are collected
annually in the form of surveys. 69
