A two-stage stratified sampling method was used in the last census in 2001. The first-stage

sampling unit involved the settlement while the second stage-sampling unit was the

agricultural holding. The agricultural holdings over the specified physical criteria related to:

the size of the land; the number of livestock in the province and district centres having 5,001

or more inhabitants, and public agricultural holdings being fully surveyed. Estimations were

provided at the Level 3 (in 81 provinces) of the Statistical Regional Classification (SRC).

Agricultural holdings (household) wage structure surveys:

Those surveyed in the

Agricultural Holdings (Household) Wage Structure Survey, were only those that hired a

minimum of 5 seasonal workers during its busiest season, or hired at least 1 permanent

worker. On the other hand, all agricultural holdings are fully surveyed in the Public

Agricultural Holdings Employment and Wage Structure Survey. Until 2006, roughly 1,600

agricultural holdings were sampled: in 2007, a total of 3,781 holdings were selected for

sampling.

Sea Products Survey:

The method used was complete enumeration (by conducting individual

interviews with all fishermen at their addresses) for the years, 1967-1969 and sampling

surveys for the years 1970 and 1971. The method of complete enumeration was used from

1972 through 1980. Large scale fishermen are covered by complete enumeration and small

scale fishermen have been covered by sampling methods since 1980. Annual surveys are

conducted during January-May of the related year. In the application, information of the

previous year is filled by the method of face to face interview in 28 provinces which have

boundaries to the Black Sea, Marmara Sea, Aegean Sea and Mediterranean Sea.
