CountrySTAT, launched in 2005 by FAO is a web-based information system for food and
agriculture statistics at the regional, national and sub-national levels. It is based on the Open
Source Software used for CountrySTAT (FENIX) platform, which uses the same open-source
technology of the FAOSTAT family. CountrySTAT’s objective is to improve access to food and
agricultural statistics. It is a good platform for countries that do not have their own online
databases and dissemination systems for agricultural statistics. Currently, CountrySTAT has 25
active members of which 15 are COMCEC Member Countries. These are Algeria, Benin, Burkina
Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Cameroon, Gambia, Gunea-Bissau, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Nigeria,
Senegal, Sierra Leone, Togo and Uganda. 10 other COMCEC Members showed interest in
CountrySTAT but have not advanced any further with the process. These are Algeria, Gabon,
Afghanistan, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and
Uzbekistan.
