India was the most important source of agricultural imports for Bangladesh in most of the years

during the last decade. Cotton is the most important import items from India, while imports of

rice, wheat, vegetables, raw cane sugar, sugar and sugar confectionary, spice and feeding stuff

for animals showing growing trend in recent years. Again, along with geographical proximity

and improved communication and connectivity supplemented by gradual trade liberalization

between Bangladesh and India under South Asian Free Trade Agreement (SAFTA) and friendly

political relationship in recent years act as the key driving forces for increased trade between

these two neighboring countries.
