important unit, the Deputy of Statistics is responsible for all systems at the MJA. Statistical
activities of this unit include conducting surveys and recognition of the statistical
requirements of different subdivisions. This involves: the design, formulation and execution of
the required statistical projects; establishment of a system for registered statistics of the
Ministry; and promotion of statistical knowledge among agricultural officials and agricultural
holders.
The main activities in this field are in four areas as follows:
Statistical Studies and Surveys
Survey and recognize statistical requirements;
Survey the procedures and presenting optimum solutions to promote the quality of
produced statistics; and
Conduct research on using new statistical sampling methods.
Planning and Formulation of Statistical Projects
Study, survey and select required plans and projects;
Design, plan and specify statistical methods and provide typical and technical plans;
Analyze the collected data.
Performing Fieldwork and Data Collection
Determine the required facilities and organization of statistical projects;
Prepare questionnaires and statistical sampling instructions, supervision, technical
review, text editing and obtain the results;
Supervise the execution of fieldwork and present the required solution during the
execution of statistical projects; and
Ensure that annual statistical data collection programmes for wheat, barley, rice, and
other crops are being implemented. Implement estimation of crops production costs.
Design and Implementation of Required Systems for Registered Data
Identify and classify (registered) statistical requirements of all subdivisions of the
Ministry; and
Customize the methodology of the design and implementation approach.
Beside the Statistical Deputy, the Statistical Information Department is responsible for
processing, organizing and disseminating statistics and information related to the agricultural
sector to officials, researchers and international organizations. Such information is
disseminated in the form of publications, CDs, brochures and databanks. Some of the main
activities of this department are to:
Present agricultural data banks;
Extract, process and disseminate statistical information in the agriculture sector;
Provide and present statistical reports and publications;
Compile agricultural newsletters on the internet;
Prepare and distribute statistical and information brochures;
Provide library services on statistics and related fields;
Provide statistical information for international organization (such as FAO, ESCWA,
etc.); and
Present statistical information through networks, databanks and web applicable
programmes.
