Imports are also relevant for cheese products, although here Egypt exports significantly more
than it imports. An export surplus can also be observed for trade in fresh milk products (see
Figure 5-8).

Due to the existence of a relatively modern milk and dairy processing sector, export promotion
has recently received growing attention by the Egyptian Government. As per the 2014
directive of the Minister of Industry and Foreign Trade to ensure the compatibility of Egyptian
