Improving Agricultural Statistics in the COMCEC Region

49

In the African group, two thirds of the countries’ IASD scores are above the COMCEC

average, whereas in the Arab group the reverse is presented whereby 62 percent of

the countries’ scores are below the COMCEC average. In the Asian group the countries’

scores are distributed evenly close to the COMCEC average.

Figure 8 presents the individual dimensions cumulating to reach the total IASD score.

It can be observed that in general the individual dimensions move in the same

direction. As far as the six dimensions of IASD are concerned, COMCEC Member

Countries registered the lowest performance in regard to the availability of statistics to

users (48 percent of the full score), followed by the coverage of outputs (52 percent).

The best performance was registered in organization and statistical infrastructures

(68 percent).

In terms of the organization scores, most countries reported to have a suitable legal

and institutional environment for agricultural statistics. Kuwait, Senegal, Algeria,

Lebanon and Mauritania are members which appear to have problem in this area.

In the timeliness dimension, the best performers are Uganda, Kazakhstan, Indonesia,

Tunisia and Mauritania.

With respect to methodology, the champions are Morocco, Jordan, Iraq, Burkina Faso

and Mozambique.

In terms of richness of outputs Egypt, Cameroon, Iraq, Morocco and Iran lead in

ranking.

For the availability dimension Cameroon, Burkina Faso, Turkey and Nigeria are the

COMCEC Member Countries with top scores.
