Annex 1 to OIC/COMCEC/36-20/REP

79

Jerusalem is a blessed township entrusted to the ummah by the Prophet Nabi, who said,

“If you cannot go and pray there, at least send oil to light the lamps of that place.”

The Palestinian cause is one of the building blocks that led to the founding of the

Organization of Islamic Cooperation that brought us together in the first place.

We started up a new project within the scope of COMCEC to preserve Jerusalem.

With the COMCEC Jerusalem Program, we aim to improve to the best of our ability

the socio-economic conditions of the people of Jerusalem by bolstering the local

economy.

I believe that you, our member countries, will provide this program with the necessary

support that will increase the welfare of our Palestinian brothers.

Our solidarity is crucial in this period when harassment against Jerusalem is on the rise

and the occupying Israeli regime’s attacks intensify.

Undoubtedly, our unity, solidarity and effective cooperation will be the key to our

success in the Palestinian cause and in all other fields.

May the Lord be our helper.

As I end my words with these thoughts, I wish that the consultations you shall conduct

and the decisions you shall make at the 36

th

COMCEC Meeting will be beneficial for

our countries.

While I greet you with respect, I now hand the session to my Assistant, Fuat Oktay, to

continue the meeting.
